Attractions in Truro

The stunning Truro Cathedral is one of the finest religious buildings in Cornwall, and the county’s only cathedral. Built in the late 19th century, the Gothic Revival-style building features an imposing 250-foot spire that dominates Truro’s skyline. It was the first cathedral built in Great Britain since construction on Salisbury Cathedral started in 1220. Truro Cathedral was built on the medieval St Mary’s Church, and the early church’s remains are found in the south aisle of the cathedral.

Visitors to Truro also enjoy pleasure cruises along the River Fal and its tributaries, especially to Falmout and St Mawes. The city was a bustling port until recently, and much of Truro’s industry that dominated its wharfs has been replaced by offices and homes. A walk around the city centre reveals mostly Georgian, Regency and Victorian buildings, including beautiful buildings from the 18th century, along Princes Street. Other attractions include Truro’s market at Lemon Quay and the Royal Cornwall Museum on River Street.
